Current Event in South/East Asia (South Korea)
On May 18th, 2013, North Korea fired three short-ranged missiles toward South Korea and the US. Earlier this year, North Korea's new leader Kim Jong-Un threatened nuclear attacks on South Korea, Japan and US military, leaving everyone on high alert. Many citizens and workers and being evacuated from the area the missile is predicted to hit. Now, Japan and South Korea can only wait.
This event seems similar to the wars Japan and China had over who would be in charge of Japan. When Chinese try to take over and influence Japan, Japan fought back. Also, similarly to North Korea, Japan kept out all foreigners and keeping in all their citizens, and going to war. This is relevant because North Korea is also keeping all its citizens in and not letting anyone out, and threatening war on other countries.

Japanese Pop Culture
Above are two videos, one is a music video from Japan and the other one is a commercial from America. These examples of pop culture are"equivalent" because of the fact that both are useless and do not make any sense, and one of them makes you feel a little uncomfortable. The Japanese example is a J-pop music video with a strange girl doing extremely random tasks for no apparent reason, making viewers extremely confused. The American example is a man also doing extremely random activities, leaving watchers confused. Therefore, these are pop culture equivalents, the only differences are one of them is just plain weird while the other one is funny.
Primary Source
The Primary source that I found in relation to Japan and China is the book "The Tale Of Genji". This is a primary source because it was the first chapter book and an original source. This source is from the Heian Period, in 11th century Japan and was written by a Japanese woman named Murasaki Shikibu. The purpose of this book was to be entertainment for upper-class citizens.
The research that could be done on this book could be essential to understanding the mind of a Japanese woman/citizen in the 11th century. Since there were not many books written in this time period, this could help you understand what they found important, see how early Japanese lived, and what they found important and entertaining. Another thing that could be found in this primary source could be the daily routines of an 11th century Japanese citizen. Also, the conflicts inside the book could lead historians to learn more about what they thought was life or death or basic fears that all people had in that time period, and relate them to what the modern day Japanese citizen fears.
