Mahatma Gandhi
"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it. Always." - Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi was born October 2, 1869 into the Hindu religion in the British Indian Empire and grew up to become a lawyer. Gandhi's true story begins when he is in South Africa riding a train first class in South Africa when he is told he had to move because of his skin color. When Gandhi tries to reason with them and tries to explain that he is a lawyer , he is thrown off the train. This inspires Gandhi to rally up Indians to strike against the racism. At his first rally in South Africa, he asks everyone there to burn their papers (because Indians were required to carry papers at all times to show the British that they were citizens) to show the British that they would not comply with such racism. At this rally, the British try to put a stop to Gandhi, but Gandhi persists. The British revolted by beating Gandhi, but that did not stop him, and he continues burning the papers. Even when the British arrest Gandhi, he never acts violently.
When Gandhi gets out of jail, he speaks to a larger crowd and advocates a non-violent strike. He says "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." and makes sure to exaggerate that they will never use violence to strike back. With this non-violent tactic, Gandhi and his wide range of both Muslim and Hindu followers, slowly gain the independence of India.
Over Gandhi's life, he had to face violence, death, and hate, but by living by truly living by the quote, "When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it. Always." he perseveres and is able to accomplish what he had worked his whole life towards. An independent India, and to teach the world that there is always hope, and that violence isn't the only- or best way to fight for what is right.

Indian Pop Culture
An element I found similar to American pop culture are the stars from Bollywood and Hollywood. For example, the highest paid actor in Bollywood Salman Khan. This can be related to actor Tom Cruise, from Hollywood. Below, there are two videos that show examples of the actors works in films.
NGO's in India
A major NGO based in India is called the Sammaan Foundation. This foundation works to provide and encourage education, training, and financial support to people of India. Currently, the Sammaan foundation is trying to provide rickshaw pullers and the lower-class with skills and training needed to pursue a career as an entrepreneur . This NGO is based out of Bihar in India. It is also supports women empowerment, health services, employment generation, micro credit, and children education.
The leader of the Sammaan Foundation has many hopes for what is to come of this foundation. "Sammaan’s idea is to systematize the working of all Rickshaw pullers by bringing them under one roof and to modernize the cycle rickshaw pulling sector (which contributes 30% in urban transport) with small but innovative changes. This not only makes it easier for the rickshaw pullers to drive and increase their income through outdoor advertising, but value added service such as sale of mineral water, juices, mobile recharge, courier collection, bills collections also makes it more comfortable and enjoyable ride for the commuter.
Nowhere in India but at SammaaN, peddle rickshaw gives every bit of luxury to its passengers. The value added features in our rickshaws include music, magazine/news papers, first aid, and sellable items like cold water, fruit juices etc.(operators share this income). We are the first company to introduce Pre Paid Cycle Rickshaws in India. Passengers can even pay their utility bills and recharge their mobile phones while traveling by our rickshaw. Hence we have transformed the traditional rickshaw into a marketing engine.
Not only is this, after airways, SammaaN Rickshaw the only mode of public transportation where passengers are insured. Where governments everywhere have started to remove hoardings and billboards from public places, our rickshaws provide alternative to the clients to reach masses and penetration into semi urban and rural market. We are therefore working to organize the rickshaw pulling sector by bringing them under a uniform system."
